About the Role:
Working within a collaborative Capital Works team, you will take ownership of multiple building construction and refurbishment projects, managing all aspects of project delivery from initial business case and planning through to commissioning, handover and defects management.
You will provide strategic project leadership, coordinate multidisciplinary project teams and ensure all works align with organisational objectives and legislative best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of capital works building construction and upgrade projects across the full project lifecycle.
- Develop and implement comprehensive project management plans covering scope, program, budget, procurement, risk management and stakeholder engagement.
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate procurement and delivery methodologies, including both traditional and Design & Construct procurement models.
- Manage project risks, value management initiatives and whole-of-life asset considerations to achieve optimal project outcomes.
- Prepare project briefs, consultant scopes of work, terms of reference and consultancy tender documentation.
- Review and manage design development to ensure solutions are fit-for-purpose, compliant with relevant legislation and Australian Standards, represent value for money and align with the approved project brief.
- Oversee project commissioning, practical completion, handover documentation, defects liability management and transition into operational maintenance.
- Prepare high-quality project reports, executive updates and client communications throughout project delivery.
- Ensure projects achieve agreed performance measures relating to scope, budget, program, quality and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and governance records in accordance with organisational policies and delegated authority frameworks.
- Identify opportunities to improve project delivery methodologies, business systems and operational efficiencies.
- Proven client-side project management experience delivering capital works building construction, refurbishment and upgrade projects.
- Strong understanding of the complete project lifecycle, from feasibility and planning through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
- Demonstrated experience developing project management plans, delivery strategies, procurement plans and risk management frameworks.
- Experience preparing consultant briefs, tender documentation and managing multidisciplinary design teams.
- Sound knowledge of traditional and non-traditional procurement methodologies, including Design & Construct contracts.
- Strong understanding of Australian Standards relating to construction procurement and tender evaluation processes.
- Experience administering construction contracts and undertaking the responsibilities of a Principal's Representative and/or Contract Superintendent.
- Comprehensive understanding of contract administration, construction legislation, building industry practices and stakeholder responsibilities.
- Experience managing commissioning, defects liability periods, operational handover and asset maintenance considerations.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage confidently with clients, consultants, contractors and executive stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects while balancing competing priorities and meeting strict deadlines.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience managing project budgets, financial reporting and consultant fee proposals.
- High attention to detail with excellent report writing, documentation and governance skills.
- Tertiary qualifications in Project Management, Construction Management, Building, Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Relevant professional memberships or industry certifications will be highly regarded.
