The Queensland Government has committed to an ambitious program of delivering new regional plans, supported by infrastructure plans, across every corner of Queensland as part of its commitment to deliver one million homes by 2044.
We are seeking an experienced AO7 Principal Planner to join the Regional Planning Division and contribute to the development, review and implementation of regional plans that will help shape sustainable, well-planned and connected communities across Queensland.
The opportunity
As a Principal Planner, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for reviewing and implementing regional plans under the Planning Act 2016 and the Regional Planning Interests Act 2014.
You will lead and contribute to regional planning workstreams, undertaking research, analysis, mapping and technical investigations to inform high-quality, evidence-based regional planning policy.
A key part of the role will be building productive relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will work closely with other state government agencies, local governments, infrastructure providers, community representatives, industry peak bodies and technical experts to understand the opportunities, challenges and infrastructure needs of Queensland’s growing regional communities.
You will also provide strategic advice on complex regional planning matters and brief Regional Planning leadership on key findings, emerging issues and recommended approaches.
What you’ll bring
To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Research and analytical capability – Strong research, data analysis and evidence-based decision-making skills, with the ability to translate complex information into practical planning and policy outcomes.
- Policy development and writing skills – The ability to prepare high-quality policy documents, regional plans, supporting guidance, correspondence and briefing materials for a range of audiences.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving – The ability to analyse complex planning policy and development assessment matters and develop considered, practical responses within a regional planning context.
- Leadership – The capability to lead regional planning workstreams, coordinate research and analysis, brief senior leadership on findings and provide sound advice on complex and sensitive issues.
- Stakeholder engagement – The confidence and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships and work collaboratively across government, local councils, industry, infrastructure providers, communities and technical disciplines.
- Preferred background in working with or exposed to - RPS, Urbis, Local Councils, Urban Utilities.
The Regional Planning Division brings together people with diverse professional skills and experience across planning policy, ecology, housing, urban design, demographics, data analytics, spatial analysis and policy implementation.
You’ll join a collaborative team working on planning issues that have a direct impact on Queensland’s future growth, housing, infrastructure and regional communities.
What this role offers you:
- $88 - $94 per Hour, plus 12% Superannuation
- 12 month initial assignment, with possibility of extension
- 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
