About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accounts Payable Officer (AO4) to join a dedicated public sector finance team in Brisbane. This is a fantastic 6-month contract opportunity, with potential for extension, where you will oversee accounts payable operations and provide leadership support to a small team.

In this role, you will ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across high-volume accounts payable functions, while contributing to process improvements and fostering a collaborative, service-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, coordinate, and approve transaction-based financial services, ensuring compliance and accurate data input.
  • Oversee coding, workflow, and verification of incoming accounts payable invoices.
  • Provide daily support and supervision of a small processing team, including workload management, training, and performance monitoring.
  • Act as the first point of contact for issue escalation and respond to provider and stakeholder queries.
  • Develop, monitor, and review workflows, work instructions, and internal policies relating to accounts payable.
  • Identify and resolve financial management issues and initiate remedial action when required.
  • Support a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in financial processes.
  • Share expertise and provide coaching across the finance team.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
  • Demonstrated experience in accounts payable within a government or large organisational context.
  • Proven ability to supervise and support a team in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounts payable processes, compliance, and financial controls.
  • Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and communication skills.
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
