Step into a key reporting role where your initiative, confidence, and technical skills will make an immediate impact!

The Role
This is an opportunity for an experienced Financial Accountant to join a large Queensland State Government organisation in corporate finance.

As Senior Financial Accountant, you’ll support statutory reporting and provide technical accounting expertise across the finance function.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Perform and review general ledger reconciliations, journals and month-end accounting activities, ensuring the integrity of financial records
  • Monitor and strengthen internal controls, financial systems and assurance activities, proactively identifying financial risks and compliance issues
  • Contribute to the CFO Assurance Plan and associated assurance activities across the department
  • Provide technical financial accounting advice and support to stakeholders on accounting, financial management and administrative matters
  • Maintain and improve financial policies, procedures and controls, including the Financial Management Practice Manual (FMPM) and financial delegations
  • Ensure financial accounting records and systems comply with accounting standards, audit, legislative and departmental requirements
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in financial management practices, processes and controls
  • Support financial system enhancements, upgrades and testing as required
  • This position typically contributes to financial statement and year-end activities as required throughout the reporting cycle
  • Support post-EOFY financial accounting and audit activities, including responding to internal and external audit matters where required

  • Full-time contract (36.25 hours/week) 4 months, until end of January 2027

  • After an onboarding period, flexible hybrid arrangment with up to 2 days work form home
Highly Desirable:
  • Previous Queensland State Government financial accounting experience
  • Strong understanding and practical application of Australian Accounting Standards
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP ECC6 and/or SAP S/4HANA
