We are partnering with a Queensland Government department to recruit an AO7 Principal Project Accountant for an initial 6-month contract, with potential extension.
This role will support a key strategic project by delivering end-to-end financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and compliance within Queensland Government financial frameworks. You will work closely with both project and corporate finance teams, ensuring strong financial governance and informed decision-making at senior levels.
Your New Role’s Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead and deliver project accounting services including budgeting, forecasting, and performance reporting
- Develop detailed costing models and financial forecasts to support project decision-making
- Prepare high-quality financial reports, executive briefings, and submissions for program boards
- Monitor project expenditure and performance against approved budgets
- Identify financial risks early and implement mitigation strategies
- Provide financial analysis to support tender evaluations and contract management activities
- Build strong stakeholder relationships across project teams and corporate finance
- Lead and support team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment
- Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, processes, and reporting practices
- Demonstrated experience in project accounting within a complex environment (public sector highly regarded)
- Strong knowledge of financial legislation, governance, and compliance frameworks
- Proven ability to prepare accurate and timely financial reports and advice for senior stakeholders
- Experience leading or mentoring team members
- High-level analytical skills including financial modelling and budgeting
- Excellent communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Professional accounting membership (CPA or CA) highly regarded
- Competitive AO7 hourly rate: $88.29–$94.59 + Super
