The Role
This is an opportunity for an experienced Financial Accountant to join a large Queensland State Government organisation in corporate finance.

Joining the team during a key reporting period, you’ll play an important role in delivering statutory reporting outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
As Principal Financial Accountant, you’ll support statutory reporting and provide technical accounting expertise across the finance function.

You’ll work with a high level of independence, engaging with stakeholders to keep deliverables on track and ensure expectations are clearly understood.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead the preparation of annual statutory financial statements, including supporting notes, disclosures, and schedules
  • Deliver accurate monthly and year-end financial reporting, including journals, reconciliations, and working papers
  • Coordinate and support QAO audits (planning, interim, hard-close and EOFY), managing queries and documentation
  • Provide technical accounting advice and contribute to position papers on complex or emerging issues
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards, Queensland Treasury requirements, and relevant legislation
  • Prepare briefings, audit responses, and ad hoc reporting for senior stakeholders
  • Engage with stakeholders across the business to resolve issues and maintain reporting integrity
  • Support the Financial Accounting Manager with team operations and contribute to process improvements and frameworks
