About your new role
The Department of Transport and Main Roads, North Coast Region are seeking to appoint a Senior Advisor (Media).

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional to lead media, social media, and storytelling activities across a high-profile program.
  
You will play a pivotal role in managing media relations, developing proactive and reactive media strategies, and ensuring consistent and effective communication across all channels, allowing you to combine your expertise in media management, social media strategy, and issues management.
  
In this role, you will:
  • Lead the development and implementation of media, social media, and storytelling strategies to support the program’s objectives.
  • Develop and manage proactive and reactive media strategies, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities.
  • Identify and plan proactive stories and content to promote the program’s achievements and initiatives.
  • Coordinate timely and accurate responses to media enquiries, ensuring alignment with key messaging.
  • Prepare and review key messages, Q&A documents, and reactive briefs to support media and stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage and oversee the creation, scheduling, and publication of social media content across relevant platforms
  • Monitor and analyse media and social media sentiment, providing regular reports and insights to inform decision-making.
  • Track and escalate media issues, ensuring timely and appropriate responses to emerging risks and challenges.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to contractor teams, ensuring alignment with program objectives and messaging.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent and effective communication.
What you will need to succeed
  • Strong experience in media relations, including managing media enquiries, developing media strategies, and preparing key messages and briefs.
  • Proven ability to identify and deliver proactive media and storytelling opportunities to promote program achievements.
  • Experience in issues management, including risk identification, escalation, and mitigation
  • Strong understanding of media and social media platforms, tools, and trends, with a proven track record of managing media relations as well as social media content creation, scheduling, and monitoring.
  • Strong analytical skills to track and report on media and social media sentiment, with the ability to identify and escalate emerging risks and issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and engaging content for a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, including contractor teams.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Similar experience within government, or on large infrastructure projects, would be very highly regarded.  Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field are desirable, but not essential.
   
What the role offers
  • 3-year initial contract until April 2029, with potential extensions until 2031
  • $79.18 - $84.55 per Hour + Superannuation (AO6 band)
  • Buderim office location, with flexible work arrangements
  • 38 hours per Week, Monday to Friday
  • Weekly pay cycles with no payroll fees
  • Local Sunshine Coast based Kingston consultants to support you in your assignment
