The Department of Transport and Main Roads, North Coast Region are seeking to appoint a Senior Communications Officer.
You’ll lead compelling communications and stakeholder initiatives that drive understanding, inspire community confidence, and connect people to the exciting progress happening around them.
Whether it’s telling stories about local community benefits or planning engagement strategies that ensure smooth journeys ahead, you’ll thrive in this unique role centred around growth and transformation.
If you're someone who loves the idea of working at the crossroads of creativity and strategy, this is your on-ramp to something extraordinary.
In this role, you will:
- Drive the development, implementation, and management of strategic communication plans and campaigns for projects across the Sunshine Coast Region.
- Work alongside project delivery teams to craft messaging that connects community members with the social and economic benefits of transport infrastructure.
- Build strong and enduring stakeholder relationships - whether discussing timelines with contractors or engaging community groups interested in the projects.
- Create innovative materials (media releases, newsletters, social media content) that keep commuters and residents updated on project progress - no jargon, just clear, relatable information.
- Act as a trusted advisor, providing senior leaders and project teams with timely and expert advice on communication best practices and engagement strategies.
- Identify potential challenges before they arise and develop strategies to keep communication flowing smoothly (just like the highways!).
What you will need to succeed
- Previous experience in Communications, Stakeholder Engagement, Community Engagement, or Public Relations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (yes, you know the difference between “stationary” and “stationery”).
- A proven ability to engage communities, build relationships with diverse stakeholders, and manage messaging with sensitivity - especially in high-profile or fast-paced environments.
- Experience working within, or with, government departments, balancing community value with organisational priorities.
- A proactive, solutions-focussed mindset. If there’s a roadblock, you know how to detour around it.

- $79.18 - $84.55 per Hour + Superannuation (AO6 band)
- Buderim office location, with flexible work arrangements
