What Are The Latest Marketing & Communications Roles Our Team Has Recruited?

Our favourite recruitment projects saw us find a Media and PR advisor for Container Exchange, as well as a Director of Marketing & Communications, and a Marketing Manager for the Queensland Music Festival. It's an honour to help these incredible organisations find effective and high performing team members.

What Does 2021 And Beyond Hold For Those In The Marketing & Communications Profession?

February saw Seek add a ‘remote/work from home function’ to its search options, evidencing that some employers intend to keep their work from home offerings and that the new world of work might be far less geographically restrained.

In the same theme, we helped two of our forward-thinking clients secure top Marketing & Communications talent, however their top candidates resided in a totally different state to our clients Head Office. There is no doubt about it... Some organsations are leveraging the change in the way we work to access wider talent pools and bigger markets.

Is this a sign of the times that some forward-thinking organisations are widening their pool of talent by choosing staff from cities across the world, not just limiting it to job seekers within their cities?

Top Talent In Marketing & Communications Is Still Hard To Find

When it comes to attracting the best Marketing & Communications candidates, employers require a smooth recruitment process.

“It can reflect on a business in negative ways if the recruitment process or feedback is heavily delayed,” Elizabeth Kingston says.

"Potential employees also want to know that your business is a good place to work, so highlight your culture and promote work-life balance, creative innovation and initiatives of your organisation and your work from home options," she says.

This is the perfect time to show off how technologically savvy your business has become. You can have candidates book their interviews via calendar link, hold interviews over Zoom, or have candidates download the job description, key documentation and personal specifications from your website.

Employers should focus equally on the skills required for the role and attitude, weighing both in a similar fashion. Skills and experience alone do not make for a great hire - attitude is the third part of that magic combination.

Smart organisations are also moving away from the age-old emphasis on candidates having to have specific industry experience. “They have identified that there is significant value in borrowing brilliance and strategy from other industries,” Kingston says.

The Emerging Generation Of Marketing & Communications

For at least the next three to five years the biggest generational challenge for most corporations will remain with the Millennials.

If you’re born between 1981 and 1996, you’re considered a millennial. Millennials are a unique cohort, they are very vocal and clear and confident and able to articulate what they want, employers hoping to attract and retain them need to get on the front foot.

The data on what motivates Millennials is clear and readily available: “they are confident, vocal and cause-driven. “They seek to align themselves with organisations that have a strong sense of purpose.”

Managing Marketing & Communications Millennials

Millennials in Australia have only experienced relative economic prosperity. To them, a good job is a right, not a privilege. This has a considerable impact on the attitude they have toward organisations. 'With an average length of tenure of just 2.6 years, Millennials won't sweat over leaving a role or an organisation that isn’t effectively engaging them.'

While Gen X and Baby Boomer managers might sometimes consider Millennials high maintenance because they demand more praise, coaching, and engagement than any other workforce generation so far. It's important not to underestimate the incredible value that Millennials bring to the table in terms of adaptability, flexibility, innovation, idea generation, and questioning of the status quo, and forcing companies into the 21st century.

As the most tech-forward generation entering your organisation doesn't shy away from letting them play a key role in modernising your organisational technology.

“Buckle up, this vibrant, innovative cohort will keep organisations accountable, on their toes and most importantly innovating and moving forward!” - Elizabeth Kingston
