How to Counter Question a Panel of Interviewers
During interviews, we tend to follow a very stock standard process and that process is led by those people interviewing us. But one tip shared by Gerard highlights the tend to show you have an edge, which will, in turn, give you the chance to change the equation. This is by building rapport.
As humans, we build rapport through conversation. Once again, that's hard in the interview because we tend to follow a process where interviewers come in and lead the topic of discussion.
In this video, Gerard Kerr shares tips on how to take control of the interview process and impress your panel of interviewers using insight gained from sitting on hundreds of panels across a broad range of organisations and industries.
Gerard recommends using a technique called ‘counter questioning’, whereby you simply counter the question asked of you by the interviewer. By coming back with a really significant and insightful question, you are showing your interviewer that you are actively involved and thinking critically throughout the interview. This ultimately builds rapport and shows you are the right person for the role.
Watch the above video to learn how you can incorporate this technique in your next interview.
