The Department of Justice delivers integrated criminal, civil and community justice services to support a fair, safe and inclusive society for Queenslanders.

 

Its work spans courts, justice services, youth justice, consumer protections and community safety. The department is committed to reducing over-representation of First Nations peoples in the justice system, addressing domestic and family violence and strengthening outcomes for vulnerable Queenslanders.

 

To support its strategic direction, the department is implementing a long-term digital transformation agenda. The Digital Enablement Program is a key component, involving ICT realignment, platform renewal and organisation-wide change.


About the Role | Chief Information Officer

Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, the Chief Technology Officer is a key strategic advisor and delivery leader across digital platforms, ICT infrastructure and cyber resilience. You’ll lead core architecture, anticipate emerging technologies and operationalise tech strategies that support service delivery across the department.

 

The role also plays a pivotal leadership role in the department’s digital enablement and corporate services transformation, helping shape a future-ready ICT ecosystem aligned to government priorities.

 

Key Responsibilities

•        Lead the development and implementation of technology strategy and architecture

•        Provide forward-thinking advice on ICT trends, innovations and investment opportunities

•        Oversee IT service delivery including risk, performance and incident management

•        Manage strategic ICT procurement and vendor partnerships

•        Implement robust governance frameworks across cybersecurity, digital operations and infrastructure

•        Collaborate with internal teams, executive leadership and external stakeholders to align ICT with business needs

•        Champion a culture of innovation, capability uplift and high performance across ICT teams


About You

You are a senior technology executive with a strong track record of leading ICT functions in large, complex environments. You have the expertise to guide technology strategy, the capability to oversee service delivery and the leadership to drive innovation and high performance.

 

To succeed in this role, you will demonstrate:

 

·        Proven technical expertise and management experience, including the ability to lead change and innovation

·        The capability to monitor and drive high performance in diverse, complex settings

·        Strong understanding of government direction and whole-of-government strategy

·        Strategic thinking with the flexibility to respond to changing priorities and resource demands

·        High-level relationship skills, including conflict resolution and stakeholder engagement

·        Sound business acumen with experience in contract management, governance and project delivery

·        A commitment to personal and professional development and team capability uplift

·        Strong communication and leadership skills that promote outcomes and continuous improvement.

 

Formal qualifications in information technology or a related field are highly desirable.
